The Belgian business newspapers De Tijd and L’Echo launch a crowdfunding campaign for the restoration of the Statue of Liberty in New York. Because freedom can not shine enough. #MakeAmericaShineAgain
132 years ago the iconic publisher Joseph Pulitzer collected money with his readers to fund the placing of the Statue of Liberty in its iconic place. Today De Tijd and L’Echo follow his example, organising a crowdfunding on www.MakeAmericaShineAgain.org. Not for its placing this time, but to give the oxidated copper back its glow. The monument will shine again as will the values for which it stands.
“We made this campaign because freedom is vital to economic growth, a source of prosperity. We believe freedom can never shine enough,” explains Isabel Albers, editorial director at Mediafin, publisher at De Tijd and L’Echo.
The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France to the United States in 1885. Since then Lady Liberty has welcomed millions of immigrants at their arrival in America.
